Las Vegas Distillery, LLC is a Nevada domestic company founded in July, 2008 by George and Katalin Rácz.
This small family enterprise aimed to open Nevada’s first artisan boutique distillery and participate in founding a new agricultural type manufacturing industry in Nevada. We are proud to have this journey.
We have two, a swan-neck and an alembic, 170 gallon/650 liter Carl artisan copper pot stills, they are the Las Vegas Copper Angels. Their name is Swan and Rose.
We will manufacture in the old fashion way from “grain to bottle” handcrafted spirits: vodka, gin, whiskey, bourbon and special liquors bringing our Hungarian and Transylvanian family traditions into our new business.
We are a desert distillery and we don’t have so many farms around us so we need to bring all our raw materials (grains and fruits) here from North Nevada (Winnemucca Farms) and the region (California, Oregon, Montana).
We mill, cook and ferment everything in the distillery. We not use any commercial NGS (Neutral Grain or Grape Spirits) to mix or blend our spirits.
We distill in small batches: one whiskey batch is two 53 gallon barrels, one vodka or gin batch is around 75 cases of twelve 750 ml bottles.
Our whiskeys are double pot stilled, the vodka and gin is three times small batch distilled. During the third distillation, to bring up the alcohol content to 190 proof, we use a copper 19 plate distillation column. On each plate will occur a distillation.
One of the most important moment in the process is when the distiller starts to collect the “HEART” part of the distillate, which he thinks and feels that tastes, smells the best. Distillation is not an exact science, many think is an Art.
The micro climate has a huge effect on whiskey and bourbon maturation. We are the first ones who age whiskey in a hot dry high desert. So here come: The American Desert Whiskeys and Bourbons!
We use reverse-osmosis treated Henderson City Water to dilute our alcohol. This water mostly comes from Colorado River, Lake Mead.
It is a priority to save water. With a simple but very effective idea we collect the pot stills’ cooling water in our cooker tank and we reuse it for cooking the grains. This way we use only saved water for cooking, which is more than 200,000 gallon saved water in a year. Also we save energy with this simple technology because the collected water is already warm so less energy is needed to heat this up for cooking. Later we would like to use solar energy for the distillery.
We hand bottle all our products in the distillery.
Our goal is to manufacture great quality and value products and to become good “smiths” who through craftsmanship aim to achieve excellence in American Artisan Distilling. We will work passionate and hard for this. We hope that the community will appreciate and will like our unique locally made spirits.
